“You will come to know things that can only be known with the wisdom of age and the grace of years. Most of those things will have to do with forgiveness.”
– Cheryl Strayed, Tiny Beautiful Things
I walked past the Bolhão Market this afternoon. It was too hot to go in. It was even too hot to bother to take out my iPhone for a photo of this vendor selling socks by the entrance. I’ll take her picture another day, I said to myself.
I rushed on by, but out of corner of my eye I saw the vendor smile at me. A smile that stopped me in my tracks.
I took her photo and captured her beauty, a beauty I’ll look at on days when I doubt my own ability to age with grace and dignity.
I learned it’s never too hot, I’m never too rushed, there aren’t enough tomorrows to wait to share a smile with someone today.
