“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world would do this, it would change the earth.”
– William Faulkner
The other day a friend asked me if I felt irrelevant and disconnected because I don’t keep up with the news and refuse to talk about politics. No, I said. I’ve never felt more relevant in my life. Not watching, listening to, or reading the news is my peaceful protest.
Because I don’t bring myself down by engaging in the day to day blows on the news, the place where fear, judgement and anger grow, I can vibrate at a higher level. Negativity lowers our vibration, numbs us and lets in fear and judgement. Then we feel justified to complain, stress out, or attack.
My job is to raise my frequency because that’s where change happens, it’s the place where forgiveness lives and love grows. It’s the place where our inner light can shine the brightest so we can bring that brightness into a darkened world. By standing in the light we can see what action needs to happen to make a difference in the world. Where can we donate money and our time, what kind acts can we do, where can we reach out and listen deeply?
I choose to focus on what connects us, not what divides us. I choose to focus on what’s possible in the future, not what separates us in the past. I choose to focus on love, not hate. I choose to focus on aiming high, not going low by joining in on the negative talk. I choose to focus on being part of the solution, not part of the problem.
The word relevant come from medieval Latin meaning ‘raising up.’ Let’s become truly relevant by raising ourselves up in whatever way brings more peace, light, justice and kindness into the world.
As Buckminster Fuller said, “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
