“This is the kind of Friend
You are –
Without making me realize
My soul’s anguished history,
You slip into my house at night,
And while I am sleeping,
You silently carry off
All my suffering and sordid past
In Your beautiful
I miss my circle of friends in Vancouver. This weekend I was supposed to join them for a girl’s getaway but since I couldn’t fly there I wrote them an email instead. I share part of it with you to remind us all of the importance and beauty of long-time friendships, the importance of keeping in touch even from a distance, the importance of holding space and being there for each other – no matter what:
We’ve stood by each other through sickness and in health, through victories and defeats, through good times and hard times. I stand before you (virtually) in a circle of affection, a circle of sisterhood, a circle of awareness. I stand before you with my heart wide open, with nothing to hide. I’m aware what each one of you has brought into my life. The belly laughs we’ve shared. The tissues we’ve held out to each other. The food we’ve eaten. The stories we’ve told. You’ve given me your time, your wisdom, your kindness, your laughter, your blessings, your honesty. No matter what’s going on for you I see the beauty in you and love you still.
This weekend I will miss:
Amy’s laughter and loving kindness sprinkling the room with golden fairy dust.
Sarah asking the best questions and then listening to the answers whole heartedly.
Teresa sharing tears of joy and bits of wisdom helping us to remember to go deeper within and trust the Divine.
Jenni serving food that has so much love in it it’s like swallowing clouds and her gentle, kind wise woman ways holding space for each of us.
Cath letting us see deep inside her authentic self and letting that beautiful vulnerability fill the room and our hearts.
Janine giggling – at well, everything, making us realize she knows the secret on how to stay forever young.
