This Is Me…

“Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be?”
– Charles Bukowski

This is me.
An outlier.
I don’t drink alcohol, or caffeine, or soda.
I don’t eat sugar, or dairy, or meat, or junk food.
I don’t like shopping, or being a consumer.
I don’t watch TV, or the news, or violent movies.
I don’t talk about politics, or other people.
I don’t wear makeup, or fancy clothes, or dye my hair.
I don’t like big cities, or loud noises, or crowds.
I don’t follow rules, or regulations, or routines.
I don’t like complaining, or unkindness, or conflict.
I don’t drive an expensive car, or own a big house.
I don’t keep up with the Jones’, or maintain the status quo.
I don’t abide by bigotry, or racism, or xenophobia.
I believe in equality, excellence and enthusiasm.
I believe in appreciation, awareness and taking action.
I believe in truth, trust and travel.
I believe in compassion, creativity and connection.
I believe in balance, boldness and setting boundaries.
I believe in magic, miracles and mindfulness.
I believe in nature, nourishment and self-nurturing.
I believe in friendship, forgiveness and going with the flow.
I believe in laughter, love and light.
I believe in respect, resilience and taking risks.
I believe in power, passion and potential.
I believe in wisdom, wildness and words.
Always words.
A long-time friend recently unfollowed me on Instagram,
and in life.
He said he didn’t know what we had in common because of all my “restrictions.”
This is me.
An outlier.
Follow along,
or not.
