Thanksgiving…

“I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual.”
– Henry David Thoreau

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It’s all about gratitude, food, family and friendship. The only gift you need to give and receive is love. The only argument is about whose mother’s stuffing is the best. There’s no talk about religion, no shopping frenzy, or who received the best gift.

I grew up in a large family. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and any misfits with no place to go gathered together to celebrate.

I’m far away from my roots and I find myself longing for the old days. Before the lines of right and wrong were deeply drawn. Before the illusion of a close knit family and country became too hard to maintain. Before the arguments went beyond whose stuffing was best.

Today I celebrate the seeds I planted within myself. I walk gently on this earth. I love and accept what is. I plant my roots grow in a new country, and stand grounded and strong.
