“May the rains sweep gentle across your fields,
May the sun warm the land,
May every good seed you have planted bear fruit,
And late summer find you standing in fields of plenty.”
– Irish blessing
I just came back from my morning walk. I headed out early to beat the heavy winds and rain predicted for today. But as soon as I reached the river a heavy squall blew in. The rain and wind were at my back and the sun was peeking through the clouds and I kept walking. But the wind started to swirl and got stronger, so I turned up the nearest road to get away from the river.
Almost instantly on this new path there was no wind and the rain stopped. It was like one of those scenes in a movie where the character drops into an alternative reality, or fantasy world. Birds sang, the sky above me was blue, the trees were still.
This reminded me about the importance of taking detours on roads we didn’t expect to turn on. About seeing how we have the choice to turn away from the storm. Sometimes the storms follows us, but more often they don’t.
I couldn’t tell if the squall had simply passed by, or if was still blowing and raining down by the river. I didn’t turn back that way to find out. I stuck with the peaceful path.
