Feeling More Zen…

Porto Portugal

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

I love Japanese food. I finally made it the Namban Oporto Kitchen Café, Japanese restaurant run by a young couple.

It’s located inside the Galerias Lumére shopping area. The cafe has no seating inside its tiny space, but there’s a common space in the center of the mall where tables and chairs are set up.

I arrived early and was told by the owner that they don’t start serving until 1 o’clock. I went back at one and stood by the door ready to order my vegetable curry. But the owner came out and explained that he had forgotten to tell me that they only serve a certain number of meals at lunch and that if I wanted lunch there that day I would have to wait about 45 minutes to be served since they were already seven orders ahead of me.

“What you need to do in the future is call me at 10 o’clock and order your meal. The menu changes every day. Then I will call you back when my partner starts to cook the meal. She only cooks four servings at a time. After I call you wait another 10 minutes or so and then come to the cafe and your meal will be ready.”

This all sounded very complicated to me. And a bit torturous since the smells coming out of the kitchen were delectable.

I went to the café next-door and had a quiche and salad. I left about 45 minutes later and still hadn’t seen any food come out of the Japanese restaurant.

I will go back though, on a day I’m feeling more Zen like, because the photos of the food on the Internet look amazing. And I’m sure it will be worth the wait.
